About Mark
MARK SIFLING, CFP®Owner and Principal Financial PlannerEducation & Early Foundation
I earned my undergraduate degree in Theoretical Physics from Cornell University, where I was fortunate to attend on a Naval ROTC scholarship. Although I never pursued a career solving equations or exploring the origins of the universe, my academic training gave me something far more enduring: the ability to think analytically, solve complex problems, and approach challenges with intellectual discipline. While at Cornell, I took full advantage of the university’s diverse curriculum—studying international relations, music, and art history—to develop a well-rounded perspective. That broader education has proven invaluable over the years, especially when connecting with clients across a wide range of backgrounds. Military Service After graduation, I fulfilled my ROTC commitment by serving as a Naval Officer, spending the next five years navigating warships across the Pacific. It was an incredible experience—offering leadership, structure, and global perspective at a formative time in my life. Importantly, it also laid the groundwork for my financial future. Thanks to the ROTC scholarship, I graduated without student loan debt. That early financial freedom gave me the opportunity to begin investing—an interest that quickly evolved into a deep, lifelong passion for personal finance. Advanced Education To fully transition into the world of finance, I returned to school and earned an MBA at the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley. I was drawn to Berkeley for its academic rigor and strong finance program—and like many of my classmates, I planned to leave the Bay Area after graduation. But the region quickly felt like home, and I’ve lived in the East Bay near Berkely ever since. Professional Experience Following business school, I began a new career as a management consultant, working primarily on large-scale financial engagements, including bank mergers and restructurings. While the work was intellectually stimulating and rewarding, I realized my true passion involved helping individuals more than large corporations. That realization led me to a Vice President role at a major brokerage firm, where I built and managed brokerage and banking products used by individual investors. The role often offered the opportunity to work directly with clients, apply financial strategy creatively, and gain hands-on experience in wealth management. During this time, I also earned several key industry credentials:
Simple Life Financial With over two decades of industry experience and a full suite of professional credentials, I founded Simple Life Financial to offer truly independent, personalized financial guidance. Today, I serve a niche group of professionals who are working toward financial independence on their own terms—often years before traditional retirement. My mission is to help you align your money with your life, so you can confidently pursue what matters most. |
